What To Do If You Find an Injured Bird?

If you come across a bird that appears injured, weak, or in distress, don’t panic—your calm and thoughtful action could mean the difference between life and death.
By taking the right steps and getting the bird the help it needs, you become a vital part of its journey back to health and freedom.

1. Assess the Bird’s Condition

Before taking any action, observe the bird carefully from a distance.

Injured: Visible wounds, bleeding, broken wings, or limping.

Lethargic: Weak or unresponsive; possibly in shock.

Stunned: May occur if it flew into a window—give it 15–30 minutes in a safe space to recover.

Baby Bird: If it’s feathered and hopping, parents may be nearby. If unfeathered or in danger, continue below.

2. Contain the Bird Safely

If the bird is clearly injured or unsafe:

Find a small ventilated box (like a shoebox) and line it with soft materials like tissues or paper towels. Gently cover the bird with a cloth or towel and carefully place it in the box.

Keep the box in a quiet, dark, and warm place, away from pets, children, and noise.

Who We Are,

We’re Saipan Bird Rescue — a small, passionate team of locals who love birds and care deeply about our island home.

Whenever a bird is hurt, lost, or in danger, we step in to help. From tiny chicks to rare endangered species, we rescue, care for, and release our feathered friends back into the wild where they belong.

We’re not just about birds — we’re about community, nature, and protecting what makes Saipan so special.
